Connection types
Home internet is delivered over different kinds of networks, such as cable, fiber, DSL, fixed wireless, satellite and mobile-network home internet. Each has different typical strengths and limits, and which types reach a given building depends on the address.
Who is who
The company that sells you service, the company that owns the network and an independent retailer can be three different businesses. Ask who bills you, who installs, and who handles support after the sale.
Retailers and distributors
An independent retailer may work through distributors or platforms rather than directly with a carrier. Ask any seller how it is paid and whether it is the provider itself.
Offers and conditions
Advertised prices can depend on promotional periods, bundles, autopay, equipment and eligibility. Use the comparison checklist to put offers on equal footing.
Written terms
Before agreeing, ask for the provider’s written pricing, fees, contract and cancellation terms and keep a copy.
